Just heard this morning on the radio that murder rates in SF and San Jose are down so far this year. Good news indeed.

The youth violence epidemic is scary to me. Considering I grew up in DC when it had the highest murder rate in the world you would think I'd at least have formed some ideas about what to do about it. Unfortunately I haven't come up with anything.

I'd be interested to see the commonalities between disaffected and violent youth around thw world.

What causes a teenager to want to become a suicide bomber and how long before that begins to happen here?

Well, I can tell you in Memphis Tn.
The heat is set on Hell!!
Murders -88 for the year/22 for the month of July
The police are beating everyone like eggs(They really don't discriminate in the summer)
And a corrupt cop has been sentenced-David Tate
You talk about Hustle & Flow- This is one of Memphis Finest here.

David Tate ,son of a local TV weatherman in Memphis, went to good schools and known in the community,anglo-sax(What more could you ask for??) became police officer, started a drug and prostitution ring and catered to casinos in Tunica Miss. for a decent number of years.

Went down in a recorded conversation with one of his "Hoes", as he was planning to rob Jerry the King Lawler(Famous wrestler) at his house for 200k, in the phone convo one of his statements was....
"If that mother#$%^& at home he better do sumpthin' I ain't afraid to trade lead!!"
Yeah- But other than that..I still love Memphis..it's the barbecue and backyards ( And by backyards I mean those that are wrapped in Levi or Apple bottoms!)

Your choice of words are smooth and precise, I could flow you and see and smell the ribs, I understand the lingo about those backyards, makes a bro risk life and limb to get a taste of the action..

Be safe and continue to Hustle and Flow, big dog

              yeah, it's strange...

The mid atlantic has had 95 plus degrees for 4 days now, we have had 4 heat waves consisting of 3 days or more of 90 plus degrees.

The ozones seems to be trapping in the heat. I worry about the solar caps...

any one seen the movie The Day After Tomorrow???

I saw that movie. It was pretty good. The weather's been weird here in Denver too. Right now, it's a cold front (very unusual) and this is the second cold front in a few weeks. It's usually VERY hot this time of the year....

                global warming... hmmm...

Regardless of what our government's current line is, there is no doubt, at least in my mind, that global warming is here.

We've had a very cool summer here in Northern California. Usually pretty warm (high 90's low 100's) by June. We've just had the high heat in the last couple of weeks. Not to mention in rained in July. Everyone around here was running around like Chicken Little. Lots of talk of "earthquake weather". It NEVER rains in July!
