American Cancer Society Relay for Life

I am going to be helping in the Atlanta area with this, email/msg me if you would like to help out in any way, if you know any survivors, hook em up. There are relays all over. It's a great event for families with members that have passed, and for survivors to come out and show their victory and pay respects to those fallen. There is a track lit with luminaries for patients, living or passed. www.cancer.org is the url. Alison Belden is the one to contact. Well that's all for now. I have been crazy busy lately, but thought I should pop that info up.

thought I would revive this, anyone else participated in any of these events, my first relay was very emotional for me as a survivor, but it's a great time and really unique way to raise money and connect with your community :)

my personal opinion on this is that giving to the american canser society is a waste as it is a tax cover for the wealthy. and a way to make money for doctors by giving a way too high dose of radiation and chemo and keeping people in the dark about their minds and bodies.

The way to health is in addressing the immune system with honesty which creates health and organic food which has the needed vibraton and minerals. it is in both these arteas where all health on this planet is being compromised and americans are in the darkest area.

instead of giving money to these crooks who have and still are promoting cancer and diabetrs and all other illnesses everywhere why not use your energy to promote organic food and neigborhood farms. protest factory farms which produce onega-less meat which causes prion disease and a weak immune system and alzheimers and cjd and madcow......protest feeding soy formula to babies and gmo foods to infants and floride in the water along with arsenic....and get junk food out of the schools.....and on and on......and protest the george bush who gives all industry the license to do this and make fodder out of the population if not living robots to feed the pharmas who are owned by big tobacco.

Hello all! Hope everyone has had a great start to the new year! New to the tribe and I just wanted to make a few comments about donating to the American Cancer Society and other organizations in general...

While I will agree that some organizations are a bit of a scam, it is through organizations like the ACS that alot of great work has been done. Donations to ACS go in part to funding various research fellowships and other studies that have helped the medical community learn how to treat AND prevent certain cancers. You cannot prevent all cancers/diseases just by eating organic foods and wishing yourself healthy. There are alot of factors involved in any disease that we are only just now learning about. We are becoming an evidence-based society and need research to help show us what is "good" and what is "bad" for us.

Donations also go to prevention and awareness programs supported by funds from the ACS (or whatever organization). I'm not sure about ACS specifically but with many organizations you can ask that your money go directly to a specific program.

I know that most people on tribe have a disdain for allopathic medicine, but thanks to it we have a much longer life expectancy, although the pros/cons of a whole population living longer are always debatable. Not all MDs are drug/chemo pushers, just like not all organizations are inherently evil...
