Is America about to have its 1st black...or woman president?

There was a time when American politics was interesting for me as an outsider and I used to read practically every article with great interest, until... .... ...in steps George W Bush! As a media person I felt George made politics boring and uninteresting, yet funny. Whenever he made a speech I would rather read a hard copy of it than to sit and waste my time infront of a TV. But, I have a feeling that politics in the US will become very interesting again soon! Yep, infact much more popular as George Bush is unpopular at the moment! hehe

Two very interesting candidates have stepped up to take part in the presidential race - Barack Obama & Hillary Clinton. Thanks to the Iraq war & public disillusion with Bush & Republicans losing votes...2008 is looking like an awesome year for the Democrats...Could this be a chance for America's first black or first woman president?
And what difference could they really make?

I'd like to hear your views?

  • If Clinton runs for President, I don't care who is on the ticket opposite her I will vote for them. I don't know enough about Obama yet to make a determination, but being a democrat, I doubt I will vote for him. If Colin Powel would run I would vote for him in a heart beat. Ann Richards died before she could run, or she would have been the one and only democrat I would have voted for. We shall just have too see. I voted in the primaries so we will see who all runs when the mud starts to be flung.

I don't care too much about disillusionment. According to reality, Bush's policies have been great for this nation economically. Now that the democrats have Congress, be ready to watch unemployment sky rocket again and watch our boom economy fail again. They will start trying to actively get rid of the armed forces the way Slick Willy decimated our global forces when he had control. The reason we are short on troops is because of him and his cabinet, not because of the war. I was there in Europe as base after base after base after base was closed and consolidated. I was there while Clinton offered early retirement packages worth a lot, and I mean a lot of money to get rid of more and more experienced soldiers. I was there as more soldiers simply didn't re-enlist because they didn't want Clinton as their commander in chief. No, I prefer to not have democrats in the presidential seat ever again.
    • Wow :)

This is the first Republican that I have come accross that is proud to be one.

      My respects Wendy :)
      I really respect that! :)

Thanks for the reply, was an interesting read.
      • No offense, but this is Tribe. The vast majority of tribers are way leftist liberal democrats. Anytime someone speaks up who is not that, he/she/it is attacked by at least 50 people and called all sorts of names and blamed personally for all the world's ills. Given that this is CDF, I expect more out of the tribers here. I have yet to be disappointed in this tribe. I actually DO like to hear what others opinions are, so long as they provide workable and plausible solutions if they are going to disagree with me. You know what I mean? It's all well and good for someone to disagree with me, and say "I disagree" and leave it at that. I am not responsible for the fall of civilization and when someone disagrees with an action I believe in, I thoroughly expect them to provide a viable alternative. I am rare in that way.

As for a woman in office, I am all for that, just not Hillary. That woman is evil. Her and her slutty husband represent evil in my world, and I firmly believe they are desirous of an America under the control and dictation of the UN. I really wish you had had the opportunity of living under the governance of Ann Richards. She was a damn democrat, but she was a way cool hot mama who got things done. I didn't agree with everything she stood for, but she stood for enough, and followed through on her campaign promises. I miss her, the damn democrat, hehehee.

As for a black (or hispanic, or asian, or polka dotted) I don't want just anyone. When that freak Jesse Jackson ran I was seriously fearful. That is definately not someone you want "representing" black America to the world. Now Colin Powell, he's muh man. Of course, his wife will kill him if he runs, darn the luck. I am biased though, and I will admit it. I am former military and my entire male family has been military since they arrived on US soil (or married outside of the tribe to an immigrant) and I dig military members on principle.

As for you, nice to meet you Fern, and many kudos for not being one of those who just attacks, but actually read what I had to say. Thanks.
        • Hey Fern,
          My two cents. ;)
I DO want a woman president in office someday as well as a black president, a muslim one, a hispanic. Whatever...America was built by immigrants from all over the world and it is about time that the presidents reflect that! Not saying that rich white men shouldn't be allowed to run for office but we need to reflect more of the true Americans out there!
So, coming down to the qualifications....
I am not so sure Hillary Clinton is ready yet but then again, there have been presidents elected with less political experiences than her in the past so we will see. I do like her record in the Senate so far though. I have to admit, I am really liking Obama a lot so far but again, does he have enough experience? I don't think so for this particular election.
If Hillary runs and I feel good about voting for her, I would love to see Obama as Vice President on that ticket. I think the two of them together would be a winning ticket.
I need to read more on the other candidates though before just voting and it is still early so there may be more qualified people out there that I like just as well or better.
In any case, it is going to be a very interesting election and I feel the tide is turning. Overly optimistic maybe but isn't that part of the American Dream? ;)
The only republican I said I would have considered voting for in the past was John McCain but his actions the last few years have disappointed me and honestly, I am just a Democrat through and through. ;)
Don't worry Wendy, I won't attack you if you are nice to me too. ;)
        • And what an interesting read it was Wendy. I am not American so I try not to get to deep into what I dont know much about. But I am an inquisitive media person...so id rather stand back and learn...but sometimes you learn from an idiot and sometimes you learn from someone who really know what they are talkin about. ... ... ...And you my dear are far from an idiot. And yes I did a learn a fare deal from what you said. Infact, I did some research on one of the comments you made - the one about Bush's policy having been good for the economy.

I still stand by what i said and even with this post..."well said Wendy!" :)
